Old Town Triangle Real Estate Market

Old Town Triangle is a distinct, historically significant sub-neighborhood found within Old Town proper. Located 1.5 miles north of the loop, this wedge-shaped area lies west of Clark Street, north of North Avenue, and south of Armitage. Old Town Triangle real estate for sale is awash with old world charm and character. Meandering, brick-paved streets and old architectural treasures make Old Town Triangle reminiscent of a London neighborhood.

Old Town Triangle Chicago Real Estate

The Old Town Triangle was initially settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century. St. Michael’s Church, along with many wood workers’-style cottages replete with ornate window frames and gabled roofs, stands testament to Old Town Triangle’s initial real estate. Rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire, St. Michael’s steeple towered over nearby structures at a height of 290 feet; the steeple, with clock faces on each side, is an Old Town Triangle icon. While diversification and changing times mean that St. Michael’s Church is no longer the central life-force of the community it once was, it nonetheless takes an active role in hosting annual festivals, events, weddings, outreach programs and more.

The Old Town Art Fair is an event that has become a favorite pastime of area residents. First debuting in the 1940s as “Old Town Holiday,” this annual art fair is notable for the quality of craftsmanship it attracts as well as visitors from far and wide. The Old Town Triangle Association (OTTA), formed in 1948, is also an active community participant. Established with community preservation as its main focus, its role in the community has since mushroomed. Along with preserving the architectural and historical integrity of the Old Town neighborhood’s buildings, the OTTA aims to improve open and green spaces, promote cultural enrichment, encourage community engagement and social interaction amongst neighbors and facilitate a variety of art and fitness classes.

A real community spirit bonds Old Town Triangle home owners. Whether enjoying a pint at Marge’s Still, a pub that is something of a neighborhood institution, getting their dogs together for an after work romp (as is a daily endeavor in the park just in front of the Midwest Buddhist Temple), strolling the streets for one of the area’s many festivals or simply enjoying the best ribs the city offers at Twin Anchors, neighborhood activities provide the perfect venue for getting to know fellow residents. Other amenities include Old Town Triangle’s proximity to Lincoln Park, Lake Michigan and Wells Street, a street which, through its many restaurants, pubs, shops and service-providers, fulfills a wide-range of needs.

Earning the designation of a Chicago Landmark in the 1970s has not only preserved Old Town Triangle’s architectural integrity (many of its buildings date back to the 19th century), but has also enabled it to remain a low-density area. Beautiful residential streets are lined mostly with stone townhomes and brick row houses, with the occasional wooden “workman’s cottages” mixed in. Three- and four- story condominium buildings and a handful of high-rises on Clark Street combine to provide a range of real estate options in Old Town Triangle. Homes include newly constructed buildings but its historic designation means that the majority of Old Town Triangle’s real estate retains a vintage quality. Be it a detached single-family home or a unit in a multiunit dwelling, real estate in the area is highly sought after and encourages a range of buyers. From starter families to young working adults and long-established Old Town Triangle home owners, a variety of residents delight in the neighborhood’s quiet, tree-lined streets, unique history and European allure.
