Goose Island Homes For Sale - Chicago

Goose Island is an artificial island that is the only one of its kind on the Chicago River. Formed by the North Branch of the River River to the west and the North Branch Canal to the east, Goose Island only encompasses about 160 acres, or roughly 1.5 miles long and just a half mile wide. In its earliest days, Goose Island was highly industrial and home to industrial plants, factories, and various warehouses, with its most notable tenants being People’s Gas and Light & Coke Co. Coal yards and grain elevators were also a part of the Goose Island landscape during this part of the late 19 Century, however by the time the 20th century rolled around, many businesses had left the island leaving it deserted. More About Chicago's Goose Island Neighborhood

Today, Goose Island is still home to some industry, but over the years, the area has seen some growth and redevelopment, with many of its older structures and warehouses now converted into modern manufacturing spaces and chic loft offices. Kendall Collage also has a campus here on Goose Island and as development in other nearby areas like River West and Fulton Market continues to progress, Goose Island is also sure to follow suit. Goose Island can be accessed via Division Street, running east-west, and Halsted Street, which runs north-south. There’s also railway access to Goose Island as well via The Cherry Avenue Bridge, which is located at the island’s northern tip.
