Damen Avenue acts as Bucktown’s main roadway. The CTA Damen Blue Line “L” Stop is located at Damen and Milwaukee while Bucktown’s other Blue Line stop is located at Western and Milwaukee—just a few blocks northwest. The CTA #73 bus travels east/west along Armitage Avenue while the CTA #50 bus takes passengers north or south down Damen. To travel to the Loop, most commuters take the CTA #50 bus, which can be caught on nearly every other block down Milwaukee Avenue.

Originally, founded in 1848, Bucktown was considered a separate town referred to as "Holstein" by German immigrant farmers and annexed by Chicago in 1863.
