Transportation-Oriented Development in Chicago

Transportation-Oriented Development in ChicagoIt wasn’t long ago that living adjacent to an “L” line in Chicago would’ve only been considered as a last resort. Today however, things are a bit different and there seems to be a new movement in residential real estate that’s focused on transportation-oriented development.  In short, the idea is to form a more urbanized atmosphere where local residents will be able to shop in the neighborhood, dine-out in the neighborhood and use public transportation in the neighborhood as opposed to relying on a car and going elsewhere in the city. As a result, more and more Chicagoans are ditching their cars and finding places to live with quick and easy access to the city’s major transportation hubs.

Preliminary plans for two transportation-oriented developments have already been announced near Wrigleyville and Roscoe Village, which would almost give future residents direct access to the Sheridan Red Line station at Dakin and Sheridan and the Paulina Brown Line Station at Roscoe and Paulina. In addition to being located right next door to two of Chicago’s busier L lines, such developments may also emphasize bicycle parking in hopes of minimizing congestion and additional traffic in each neighborhood.

Although each plan is still in the earliest stages, it’s hard to argue the attractiveness of each initial rendering:
