SupportGeller.com Rallies Behind Andrea Geller & the Need For Financial Transparency at CAR
There’s no doubt that by now, you’ve likely heard about the conflict between the Chicago Association of Realtors (CAR) and CAR member and real estate agent with Coldwell Banker, Andrea Geller. As Chicago Agent Magazine reported earlier this month, CAR is seeking $50,000+ in damages with the full intention of seizing “an ongoing campaign of defamation” from Geller that involves “unsubstantiated, reckless and knowingly false public statements.”
Since the news broke of the CAR lawsuit, many of Geller’s colleagues and real estate agents around the Chicago-land region are starting to show support via comment boards, social media, and even a new website, SupportGeller.com. Many Geller supporters agree that stronger financial transparency is needed throughout the association and some are even pushing for an independent forensic audit of CAR’s financials. But given the Chicago Association of Realtors has been a well-respected, valued organization by many for the better part of 125 years, is a lawsuit against one of its own really the best alternative? Contrary to what the association might say, it seems as if other former CAR members have also questioned the accounting practices in recent years along with Geller, so perhaps the current defamation suit is a bold attempt to silence not only the loudest voice in Andrea Geller, but all of the organization’s past, present, and future critics. In any case, the overwhelming support for Andrea shows not only how strong the bond is between Realtors in Chicago, but that more financial accountability is absolutely needed in an organization supported by other strong, intelligent professionals just like Ms. Geller.
