For years, Carmichael’s Steakhouse at 1052 W. Monroe has been a favorite dinner spot for both West Loop residents and local Chicagoans all over the city who appreciate a good old-fashioned steak dinner. The structure itself was originally built back in 1947, but it wasn’t until 1997 that Mel Bechina, also the owner of Carmichael Truck Repair, opened up what’s been considered a neighborhood staple for nearly the past 20 years.
All that, however, is about to change as reports are starting to surface about the building and surrounding property being sold and plans for a new 131 rental complex taking its place. The developer, Michigan Avenue Realty Group, plans to raze Carmichael’s and construct two 4-story buildings—one housing 57 new rentals and the other with 74 new rentals—which will include on-site parking and eliminate the open park space that sits right next door at 1060 W. Monroe.
While some residents already living in the West Loop may be disappointed about Michigan Avenue Realty Group’s latest endeavor, it’s hard to argue that this new rental complex won’t fit right in with recent development that’s happening all over the area.
As more information about the new rental complex set to replace Carmichael’s becomes available, we’ll keep you updated via our network of real estate blogs on SeeChicagoRealEstate.com, SeeChicagoOnline.com, and 401NorthWabashCondos.com.
