Northerly Island Charter One Pavillion Improvements On The Way

Everyone loves summertime in Chicago and much of that passion is derived from the numerous concerts the downtown and surrounding neighborhoods host each and every year. Back in 2005, construction started on the Charter One Pavilion on Northerly Island, and since then, this popular downtown Chicago concert venue has been hosting more than a handful of shows each year—all at about a 7,500 person capacity.

However, just recently announced were venue improvement plans that will now allow the city of Chicago to start generating more revenue from the Northerly Island park space. Such plans will include a larger stage, an upgraded video screen, new sound and lighting systems, new restrooms, new temporary seating, a VIP club, and a redeveloped lawn that will increase total capacity by roughly 14,500 people. In all, the new Northerly Island concert venue will hold 22,000 concert-goers and should now attract some of the hottest acts in the music industry. As reported by the Sun Times, the first large-scale concerts that will be held this season will be Jimmy Buffett on June 29th and Phish on July 19th through the 21st.
