Parking in Chicago is a hassle. And if you’re a real estate agent in the city, chances are, you know this all too well. A quick 15 minute showing can turn into a 45 minute conversation with clients eager to find the perfect home and pretty soon, meter maids are bound to notice those flashing lights sitting in front of a fire hydrant or no parking zone.
A new smartphone app the city of Chicago is about to roll out could resolve this every-day issue for real estate agents and drivers all over the city, however, as locals will soon be able to pay the [OUTRAGEOUS] meter fees from the convenience of their own handheld device. The mobile app, which was part of Mayor Emanuel’s renegotiated parking deal, will allow those parking in the city to enter their meter number and parking time without the annoyance of having to walk to a meterbox when first arriving at their destination or when it’s time to reload due to those unexpected tie ups wherever you happen to be. The new and highly-anticipated “pay-by-cell” initiative should be available downtown Chicago something this spring, but a date for the official launch has not yet been released.
