Dining enthusiasts all around the world look to Chicago as one of the food capitals of the United States, and quite possibly the world. However, it is not only the heart of The Windy City that contains excellent restaurants and world-class dining. Many of Chicago’s western suburbs are positively bursting with high-end dining establishments that rival those that can be found within the city proper. Visitors and residents alike can often be found traveling just outside Chicago to its western suburbs in order to enjoy feasting at these delectable, one-of-a-kind eateries.

Elmhurst, IL

The city of Elmhurst flourished into the stunning suburb it is today out of a railroad stop that brought people in and out of downtown Chicago. Elmhurst is known for offering many urban amenities, including easy access to the city, as well as a number of excellent restaurants. 100 South Chop House and Grill is one of Elmhurt's most noteworthy culinary landmarks. The upscale steakhouse’s decor reflects that of a 1950s-style supper club, and the menu boasts pasta dishes, chops, and seafood, in addition to classic steakhouse fare. 151 Kitchen & Bar is another must-visit stop on the Elmhurst dining scene, serving up fare to table far in a laid back, casual environment. Elmhurst is also home to a number of beloved local gems, like Victory Meat and Seafood, Elmhurst Brewing Co., and Roberto’s Ristorante.

Naperville, IL

With a reputation for having the best public library system in the country as well as some of the nation’s best parks, Naperville is a Chicago suburb that is certainly worth a visit, but it's the city’s restaurant scene that will make you want to stay. One of the highlights of Naperville’s culinary landscape is Mesón Sabika, a Spanish restaurant housed by an historic mansion, serving up homemade sangria and tapas. Residents of Oak Park enjoy a multitude of incredible restaurants including the perpetually trendy Citrine Café, which cooks up Mediterranean-inspired meals with an American twist. The restaurant is perhaps best known for serving up braised and brined meats and vegetables cooked in clay pots in a brick oven. Il Vicolo Trattoria is another neighborhood gem and has a reputation for its classic Italian cuisine and extensive wine list. Western Springs is an idyllic small town known for its excellent public schools, lush parks, and bustling downtown scene, which includes a number of eateries with mouthwatering menus. Vie is a Western Springs staple that offers a rotating, seasonal prix fixe menu that features dishes derived from locally sourced, sustainable ingredients. Guests can enjoy three savory courses and have the option to add on beverage pairings. Davanti Enoteca is another noteworthy dining destination in Western Springs; the wine bar and restaurant offers a unique, contemporary twist on rustic Italian cuisine. The menu includes traditional Italian classics like pasta and pizza as well as a number of sophisticated meat and seafood options.

Oak Brook, IL

Oak Brook is one of the more sparse Chicago suburbs, offering residents a slightly slower, less urban way of life. However, Oak Brook is still home to many excellent restaurants that rival those of the Chicago dining scene. Roka Akor serves up sushi and steak in a luxurious, upscale environment, and guests who may not want an entire meal can still enjoy hanging out at the bar. For American fare, Oak Brook residents will likely recommend Ditka’s, named in honor of professional football player Mike Ditka.
