A List of My Favorite Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Chicago
Dog friendly estate in Chicago plays a key role in my real estate business. Finding the right downtown Chicago condo that fits a buyer’s specific demands and living criteria, along with being a dog-friendly building, can often pose some difficult challenges. However, once finding the perfect dog-friendly condo in Chicago, my clients will usually ask me where the nearest dog-friendly restaurants in the neighborhood are located. And since Chicago is such a tremendous dog-friendly city, you might be surprised at just how many restaurants will allow both you and your four-legged pal. Back in 2008, Chicago passed a “Dog Friendly Dining” ordinance, which allows dogs in outdoor dining sections, provided restaurants purchase a Supplement License for such dog-friendly areas. Of course, restaurant staff must not pet, feed, or handle the dogs at any time, and every dog must have a city license and proof of vaccinations.
According to ChicagoCanine.com, there are approximately 45 restaurants, taverns, and bars all possessing the Dog Friendly Dining license and below is a list of some of my favorite Chicago dog-friendly restaurants you should check out:
Feast Restaurant & Bar (Chicago Gold Coast & Wicker Park/Bucktown): Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Feast is a great dining choice any time of the day. The Gold Coast Feast location provides ample outdoor seating, the food is exceptional, and the atmosphere is chic, yet casual. I try to hit Feast at least once a week for lunch and I strongly recommend you do the same.
P.J. Clarke’s (Chicago Gold Coast & Streeterville): If you’re in the mood for a burger and a beer, drop by P.J. Clarke’s, with two separate locations located at 1204 N. State Parkway and 301 East Illinois. The food at this classic Chicago bar and restaurant is delicious, the games are always on the HD TVs, and the drink menu is extensive. What else do you need?
Penny's Noodle Shop (Wicker Park, Depaul & Wrigleyville): With three locations in Chicago, Wicker Park, DePaul, and Wrigleyville, Penny's Noodle shop is a local favorite for tasty Asian cuisine. Patrons can get anything from Vietnamese spring rolls and Japanese Gyoza to signature Pad Thai and Fried Rice dishes. If you're craving Asian food, Penny's is always a great choice.
Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House (Chicago Gold Coast): Serving arguably some of Chicago’s best sea food should be reason enough for you and your pooch to make a trip over to Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House. However, the upscale vibe around the restaurant and the surrounding Gold Coast neighborhood make this a must visit, no matter where you live in Chicago. And while you’re there, don’t forget to try the crab cakes-you’ll be glad you did.
The Kerryman Irish Bar & Restaurant (River North): As a true Irish pub setting, the Kerryman outdoor dining space is absolutely spectacular. My favorite time to visit this one-of-a-kind place is for brunch (the Bloody Mary’s are terrific), but no matter the time of day or night, the Kerryman won’t disappoint, and the menu offers a wide-variety of Irish and American dishes.
The Fifty/50 (Wicker Park): The three-level Fifty/50 restaurant and bar is a great place to catch a game, mingle with friends, or simply enjoy a drink out on the front patio. As the Fifty/50 website says, the menu centers around three main sections: smoked food, fried foods, and sandwiches. Need I say more?
O’Briens Restaurant & Bar (Old Town): As one of my favorite Old Town joints, O’Briens offers casual dining in the heart of one of Chicago’s most historic neighborhoods. The menu at O’Briens features seafood, sandwiches, burgers, salads, steaks, and more, so there’s definitely something for everyone at this long-standing Old Town restaurant and bar.
Frasca Pizzeria & Wine Bar (Lakeview): Located almost directly off the Paulina Brown Line stop, Frasca offers delicious specialty pizzas, endless pasta dishes, and a very extensive wine list. The pizzas at Frasca are very reasonable priced, the selection is tremendous, and the atmosphere is true Italian. If you haven’t been over to the Frasca Pizzeria & Wine Bar, make a trip this weekend and try the Spinaci-it’s AMAZING!
Bar on Buena (Buena Park): If you haven’t been to Bar on Buena before, shame on you. The beer and whiskey menu here is long enough to fill a book, and the atmosphere is quite relaxing. In addition, the patio is nicely shaded, which is an absolute must during some of these hot Chicago days we’ve seen over the past week. If you’re a beer lover, you have to check this place out.
