Bar Toma Taking the Place of Bistro 110 in Gold Coast
Welcoming Bar Toma to the Gold Coast
Last month, Tony Mantuano announced via Twitter what the name of his new, highly anticipated Italian wine bar is going to be that’s taking the place of the old Bistro 110 space. Bar Toma will now be home to 112 E. Pearson Street in Chicago’s Gold Coast and how the name was developed is actually quite simple. As ChicagoGrubStreet.com pointed out, “Toma” comes from the first two letters of Chef Tony Mantuano’s first and last names-TOny MAntuano and it’s also a form of Italian Cheese, making it that much more appropriate. Bar Toma will be a casual Italian bar and is expected to open in October with Chef Mantuano expecting to have a gelato bar, a mozzarella bar, a pizza bar with a wood-burning oven and a variety of small plate dishes and salads. Staying true to its Italian theme, Eater.com is also reporting that patrons will also be able to have breakfast where you can stand in a space to eat and drink your espresso or coffee, just as they do in Italy. Although it’s sad to see Bistro 110 close the doors after 25 years in the Gold Coast, a new restaurant with fresh ideas will always be welcomed to the neighborhood with open arms.
