Dearborn Garden Walk

Chicago’s Gold Coast can be one of the more enjoyable north side neighborhoods to enjoy a pleasant, relaxing walk while admiring the historic real estate filling the landscape and the plush tree-lined streets defining the community. But while taking one of these routine Gold Coast strolls, have you ever wondered what was behind all those ivy-covered, classic brick mansion homes? Is the rear of each home as equally impressive as the front entrance and how do the homeowner’s utilize each backyard to get the most out of what can sometimes be a small confined area? Well some of these questions can be answered at next weekend’s 53rd Dearborn Garden Walk, which will be held on Sunday, July 17th. The event will begin at The Latin Lower School at 1531 North Dearborn and will continue through 20 separate, distinctive gardens along Chicago’s historic Dearborn Avenue. Whether you’re a nature lover or just want to admire some of Chicago’s oldest and most expensive real estate, the Dearborn Garden Walk remains one of the most traditional and enjoyable events within Chicago’s Gold Coast and is sure not to disappoint it’s participants. Included in the walk is a narrated architectural walking tour of the astonishing Dearborn Avenue as well as live jazz and classical performances in select gardens.

So who knows; along with the fabulous entertainment the Dearborn Garden Walk offers as well as the enjoyment of a delightful afternoon in one of Chicago’s most prominent neighborhoods, you may even get one or two ideas for YOUR back patio that can finally take the place of that rusted-out gas grill or the awful plastic patio furniture you bought at Menard’s four years ago that somehow seemed to be a good idea at the time. And even if that doesn’t work, you can always make your way over to the one of many Gold Coast restaurants and steakhouses for a delicious lunch or early dinner after making your way through all the gardens. No excuses! We better see you at this year’s Dearborn Garden Walk-no matter what your reason. The event starts at noon and runs until 5pm. Tickets are just $30 advance or $35 the day of.
