Andersonville Real Estate

Home to a beautiful housing stock, the charming, tree-lined residential streets offer a variety of sought-after Andersonville real estate. Old Victorians that have been fully restored to their former glory sit next to 19th-century walk-ups with restored limestone work and the occasional gargoyle.

Andersonville condos maintain a strong market due to the popularity of this area of Chicago. Andersonville Chicago real estate often consists of vintage buildings with two or three flats in each, giving name to the traditional “two- or three-flat” found in the Chicago vernacular. From apartments in vintage courtyards, condos and multi unit brick buildings, to private two-story brick walkups as well as traditional houses with covered front porches, the range of Andersonville real estate draws a variety of home-buyers with varying tastes, budgets and needs.

Andersonville Community Amenities

With Clark Street as its main drag, Andersonville is recognized for having a vibrant commercial district comprised of a variety of independent, locally owned shops, restaurants, and various service providers. Hopleaf Bar is a local tavern with somewhat of a cult following amongst Belgian Beer lovers. Reza’s serves tasty Persian Cuisine, Turkish Cuisine & Bakery is a restaurant offering authentic Turkish fare, and Ann Sather is famous for its cinnamon rolls.

In keeping with Andersonville’s varied mix of restaurants is its range of shops and entertainment. Antique and Resale stores rub elbows with art galleries, wine and dance stores, specialty boutiques, bookstores, florists and many other selections. Andersonville homeowners enjoy a weekly farmer’s market from late June-September, The Taste of Andersonville in August, and Midsommarfest, an annual street festival celebrating the summer solstice.

Perhaps one of the most popular bars in the city of Chicago, the Hopleaf, located at 5148 N Clark St, receives its name from a beer advertised outside taverns in Malta, the home country of proprietor Michael Roper's father. But the Andersonville-based tavern draws its inspiration and its drafts from another tiny European country: Belgium. Half of the bar's 200 beers come from Belgium. As a further tribute to beer, Hopleaf's walls are decorated with original beer posters from the 1920s which advertise Solanis, Biere Titan and other brands. The menu consists of typical Belgian bar fare— think mouth-watering moules frites and sandwiches, including smoked duck and ham-and-gruyere.

In addition to the various brews and bars of Andersonville, diners and drinkers will surely find various establishments suitable for all appetites within the lively yet chill and relaxing Chicago neighborhood. Amongst a few notable spots not to miss are:

  • Atmosphere 5355 N Clark St (773) 784-1100
  • Farragut's 5240 N Clark St (773) 728-4903
  • Hamburger Mary's 5400 N Clark St (773) 784-6969
  • Simon's Tavern 5210 N Clark St (773) 878-0894

Andersonville Neighborhood Highlights

The Andersonville Midsommarfest is one of Chicago’s many summer festivals, but also one of its best. Attracting nearly 50,000 festival-goers each year, the Anderson Midsommarfest features two days of live music, dancing, fun events for the kids, and great foods. There are tons of vendor booths to browse and plenty of great bars and venues to visit nearby while attending.

The Andersonville Arts Weekend occurs each autumn celebrating the artwork of dozens of locals displayed in businesses and galleries throughout the neighborhood. It’s a terrific chance to stroll the streets of Edgewater while the weather is still crisp and take in the local flair.

The Andersonville Dessert Crawl will surely leave residents and guests feeling satisfied! Each October, the community hosts a crawl on which participants can choose the "sugar route", the "spice route" or the "everything nice route", suited for the daring sweet-treat indulgers!

Presented by the Andersonville Development Corporation and co-sponsored by In Fine Spirits, the annual Andersonville Wine Walk is essentially one giant wine tasting throughout the neighborhood. Palettes will be pleased with over 60 wines in 20 different Andersonville retail shops. Specially printed wine glasses must be presented in exchange for an actual "ticket," and a tasting booklet helps participants keep track of notes and flavors.
