More About The Gap Chicago Real Estate and Neighborhood
Located in the greater Douglas neighborhood, The Gap is part of a culturally rich area, not least of all for its famed jazz scene. Originally developed in the 1850s, Douglas was a popular neighborhood for a variety of people. The Gap’s proximity to Chicago’s commercial district and ample transportation options to get there made it sought-after by wealthy citizens who desired a more peaceful way of life than that available when living downtown. Equally, Douglas’s closeness to local industry attracted blue collar workers who began settling their families there and in homes in The Gap in particular.
A mix of construction in the past has created a variety of current Gap real estate options. Traditional two- and three-story row houses with stone walkways leading to small porches are common amongst The Gap’s residential streets. Quality craftsmanship in the form of detailed masonry work instills these homes with a certain elegance and old world charm. Their unique details and vintage appeal have been preserved though many of these homes have been renovated and offer contemporary finishes. The Gap’s real estate also has its fair share of newer homes and larger condominium complexes, short sales and foreclosures. Condos are found in both four-story walkup flats and high-rises that afford uninterrupted city views. Real estate in The Gap ranges from around $170 thousand to about $700 thousand.
