The River East neighborhood in Chicago is a smaller part of Streeterville and near the shores of Lake Michigan that is east of Michigan Avenue and between Oak Street to the North and the Chicago River to the South. The River East Plaza are likely the busiest attraction in Streeterville's River East. With Navy Pier right next door, a lot of the River East residents and visitors opt to walk over to the Pier to enjoy summer in the city, but the River East Plaza does have a couple popular dining options that include Dick’s Last Resort and Fox and Obel. The River East Art Center is also located within the Plaza which is a fabulous contemporary space for private parties and weddings. Jane Addams Memorial Park is directly across Lake Shore Drive north of Grand Avenue and a great place to walk the dog, have a picnic or enjoy an afternoon in the sun.

Access to Lake Shore Drive is very easy for downtown commuters via Grand Avenue but if you’re looking for public transportation, the bus may be the best option. The 66 bus runs along Chicago Avenue and nearly every line is accessible from bus stops lining Michigan Avenue. The closest subway stop lies 3 blocks west of Michigan Avenue on Chicago Avenue. This particular stop services the Red Line but the Chicago Brown Line Stop is just 6 Blocks east of that stop.
