Oak Park Chicago Real Estate

Oak Park, birthplace of Ernest Hemingway, is a suburb of Chicago bordering the city’s west side which was formally established in 1902. Although Oak Park properties are just shy of the city limits, the Blue and Green Lines, Metra and CTA buses make traveling the 9 miles to downtown Chicago a quick, hassle-free commute. Oak Park Chicago Homes & Condos

While the intensity of the city is easily attainable, the tranquility of Oak Park properties are entirely refreshing. Quaint village streets paved with brick and lined with lighting fixtures evocative of 1920s streetlights, combined with the village’s thirteen parks with a total of 80 acres, tons of trails and two recreational centers, recall an old-fashioned way of life, one in which there was still time to sit back and smell the roses.

Oak Park homes range from under $50 000 for foreclosures to over two and a half million dollars for historical luxury homes. There is a wide variety of homes available in Oak Park, whether your preference is for single family dwellings, lofts, condos, foreclosures, modern buildings, or historic luxury mansions.

Oak Park, while relatively small compared to other suburbs, can nonetheless be divided into three approximate neighborhoods, each with a distinct flare. Northern Oak Park contains the historical Frank Lloyd Wright District. Since Frank Lloyd Wright spent the first 20 years of his career in Oak Park, the area features his first prairie-style houses. In addition to housing the world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright houses and buildings, this neighborhood is also replete with stately homes and tree-lined streets. The middle section of Oak Park is filled with a variety of architectural styles, displaying 19th century Victorian mansions side by side with smaller post-WWII-era homes. Southern Oak Park is stocked with the earliest homes of the area, most of which were constructed at the turn of the century.
