The North Halsted neighborhood on the north side of Chicago is a small section of Lakeview East that borders the adjacent Wrigleyville neighborhood. Also referred to as Northalsted by the local business association, North Halsted is also home to a significant portion of Boystown, a popular district in Chicago that was one of the first recognized gay, lesbian, and transgender villages in the United States. When walking up and down North Halsted Street, you certainly won’t be hard-pressed to find a variety of nightlife catering to the neighborhood culture as more than 60 gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender restaurants and bars are scattered throughout. Daley approved a $3.2 million restoration or the North Halsted corridor which has aided in making this location among the most energetic neighborhoods in all of Chicago. During the last Sunday of each June, the North Halsted strip draws thousands of onlookers to the Chicago Pride Parade, one of the largest and most attended gay pride parades in the United States.

NORTH HALSTED TRANSPORTATION

The CTA Brown, Red, and Purple “L” Lines all service North Halsted as the Belmont stop is located at the intersection of Belmont and Sheffield, which includes all three lines. In addition, the Wellington Brown and Purple Line “L” stop is just a few blocks south at Wellington and Sheffield for residents in the southern portion of North Halsted. The CTA 8 bus runs north and south all the way down Halsted Avenue which is another option for commuters heading to other downtown Chicago neighborhoods.
